Understanding Email Netiquette

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2011 and filed under self jokes | No Comments »

In life, it is the moral responsibility for the elder to teach the younger, or for the experienced to teach the inexperienced. In internet life, the same moral responsibility applies in regards to correct use of email.

One large difference is that, in internet life, it is very often the younger who are the experienced. The current waves of growth in internet usage, the new users, are largely from the older generations.

Accordingly, it becomes the responsibility of the experienced users to educate and train newer users in the correct usage of email. One simple way of imparting this education to lesser experienced internet users is to politely refer them to this article at http://www.BestPrac.Org/articles/netiquette.shtml

The internet life carries it’s own versions of courtesy, privacy and security issues that all users need to know. Hence a new word has entered the vocabulary – Netiquette. (Internet etiquette.)

For example:

* In internet and email culture, ALL CAPITALS IS AKIN TO SHOUTING and is universally seen as rude and impolite.

* New email users often forget to include a brief “Subject” line on their emails, or do not understand the importance of it. Ordinary postal service “snail-mail” does not ordinarily require a heading about the contents of the letter on the outside of the envelope – though most posted periodicals and many commercial accounts nowadays do identify the contents or level of importance on the outside of the envelope. Email, however, operates very differently from snail-mail. Never omit a subject line, and keep your subject line brief and relevant. Without a subject line, your email will probably be seen as yet another junk email and be deleted unread by the intended recipient. More commonly, it may not even reach the recipient at all. Many ISPs filter suspicious looking emails and delete them without delivery. A blank subject line to an email filter is like waving a red rag in front of a bull.

* Never send emails to people you do not know without their express permission. Only send email to people who you know, or who have clearly indicated that they want to receive correspondence from you. Violation of this act of Netiquette can land you in all sorts of trouble. You will be labelled as a spammer. In some states or countries, you risk being charged with criminal or cival violations of the law for sending unsolicited email. Even in countries or states where there is no specific law prohibiting unsolicited email, it is regarded as bad manners and offensive. If you check with your ISP, you will almost always find that they reserve the right to terminate your internet connection if they receive complaints about you for sending unsolicited email.

* Even when sending email to people that you do know, only send them what they are likely to want. Not everyone you know wants jokes or other “chain email” forwarded to them. Not everyone shares your sense of humour or has the time while connected at work to be reading frivolous emails. If you like forwarding jokes or other “chain emails” to your friends, check with them first to be sure they are happy to receive them.

* Think before you type. Type, then think again. Unlike face-to-face or voice-to-voice communications, the easily and quickly typed email can all too easily be a source for expressing your feelings in the bluntest of ways. Similarly, the hastily written word may lack feelings and not express the emotions that can be sensed with eye contact or voice modulation in other forms of communications. It is too easy to forget that there is a human at the other end – not just a computer. You can very easily damage your own reputation and destroy friendships with thoughtless emails. Once an email is sent, you cannot retrieve it. The damage is done.

While to the experienced user all of the above is simply common sense, as the old saying goes “Common sense is not really all that common.” These basics are not innate within the human sole. Newcomers need to be taught.

When to use To:, CC: or BCC:
—————————-

Another vital area of appropriate email usage goes beyond merely being courteous in your communications – the correct use of To: or CC: or BCC when adding recipients to the email your are sending.

All popular email software and all web-email accounts give you a choice of these three different ways to add a recipient for your email. (Sometimes you might need to check your software menu and enable BCC as a visible option. It is not a visible option by default in all email software, unfortunately.) Your choice has vital privacy and security implications, so it is important to know which to use and when. While “To:” is self explanatory, a brief definition and history of CC: and BCC: will help you understand their correct usage.

* CC: is a term from old fashioned typists. It stands for “Carbon Copy”. In days of old, prior to photocopiers or word processors with laser printers, copies of letters were made by inserting two sheets of typing with a sheet of carbon paper in between into the typewriter. When a secretary typed a letter that was meant for one person though another person (other other people) was to receive a copy, and the first person was to be informed that a copy was being sent to another person, the typist would add a line under the signature at the end of the letter, along the lines of:

CC: Joe Bloggs.
Jane Smith.

This convention alerted to direct recipient to the fact that the letter had also been sent to other specific people.

If you did not want the direct recipient to know that copies were sent to other people, you’d simply not include a CC: line at the end of the letter.

* BCC: stands for “Blind Carbon Copy”. It is the electronic equivalent of sending a letter to multiple people without a CC: line. It means that people receive the email without any trace of who else is also receiving it being revealed.

Given those definitions, there are simple guidelines as to when you should use To:, CC: or BCC: in the emails that you send:

* If your email is being sent to just one person or email address, place it in the “To:” section.
* If your email is being sent to more than one recipient and all the recipients truly need to know who else is receiving it, put all the addresses in the CC: section.
* If your email is being sent to more than one recipient but there is no urgent reason for all the recipients to know the names and email addresses of everyone else to whom it is being sent, put all the addresses in the BCC: section.

(Some email software requires at least one address to be placed in the To: section. If yours insists on this when you are trying to send a CC or BCC email, put your own email address in the To: section.)

Understanding these basic principles of email usage has many benefits. It preserves the privacy of your contacts. It prevents lists of names and email addresses being sent to strangers when someone you send an email then forwards it to others. It helps to prevent viruses, worms and trojans being accidentally spread by your friends with out-of-date antivirus programs.

Most of all, it shows the people with whom you communicate that you are sensible and responsible in your online behaviour. It shows that you take their privacy and security seriously. It builds trust in your communications.

Elmo Live Is Fantastic Entertainment for the Entire Family

Elmo has always been one of the favourite characters on the Sesame Street television show. Well, just like his cute little Muppet self in real life, this Fisher-Price Elmo can talk and sing. He can also wave his arms, throw his head back, sit, stand, cross his legs, tell stories and jokes, and play games. His very realistic mannerisms, such as bobbing his head and opening and closing his mouth while he speaks, will utterly delight fans of Sesame Street. You can activate Elmo by tickling him or pressing his tummy, foot, back or nose. He is as close to the real thing as you can get.

I think nearly everyone knows who elmo is from sesame street, a lively character and great for capturing children’s imagination, the way he crosses his legs is hilarious.

This toy represents a huge technological leap with its more realistic speech and wide range of movement. It has even been said that this toy will change the industry with its technological advances. His lips actually move in sync with his voice! Due to built-in, interactive sensors, he is capable of reacting to voice and touch. If you tickle his belly, he giggles. If you squeeze his nose, he’ll sneeze. He can ask for hugs, blow kisses and tell you he loves you. This is a great toy for helping young children to develop listening skills and encouraging interactive play. He literally appears to come alive in your very own living room!

If you can set the scene in your home with a dark cloth over a large area as though he is on stage then he will become even more real for those who are watching. Great entertainment for the afternoon after the queens speech. Much better than sitting in front of a screen playing video games.

Many satisfied customer have given rave reviews of this product. They all agree that Elmo Live has much more to offer than previous Elmo toys, due to its impressive lifelike quality. Many of the adults are getting just as excited about this toy as the children are!

The toy requires 6 AA batteries which are included and is recommended for children over 18 months of age. Because of the Elmo Live toy’s increasing popularity, Fisher-Price has had to set a limit of 6 toys per order. Toys ‘R’ Us is only allowing 2 per order. This will definitely be one of the hottest toys for the Christmas season. The demand is high, so order yours before the Christmas Sell-out!

How to Discover Your New Life

If you are past 40, a phenomenon will take place (if it hasn’t already) where you will wake up one day and wonder “What’s next?” This time of questioning has become fondly called a mid life crisis. I don’t think this mid life question needs to be a crisis, but as a society that loves to ignore the obvious, you will have a major shift in your mid life. How you choose to handle it, will determine if it turns into a crisis or not.

The reason why this “something” happens in your mid life has to do with a number of factors. One factor is the normal course of events that take place in a person’s life. You finished school, launched a career, married, had a family, bought a house and added to your financial burdens. You gained momentum along the way and received promotions, upgraded to a nicer home and maybe have the kids in college. These are the things our first major adult dreams are made of. When you more or less have them checked off your to-do list, the natural reaction is to wonder what the next big thing is in your life.

Another factor for this shift at mid life is that now we are the well seasoned life travelers that we are, we also shift from “having” to “being”. Having is mostly about having something in your life, like I mentioned above. The “being” part is now about what kind of person are you being or becoming. This concept is a bit trickier to grasp, so stay with me on this. Being is a verb in this instance. Being is about you BEING a more loving person and wanting more out of the relationships, or enjoying the work you are doing. It’s at a more visceral level within a person and not always so easy to identify. That’s how the crisis comes in. That’s when the guys hit on the young babes and the red sports cars and the women dye their hair. Clearly, not complete lists of reactions, but hopefully you get the idea. I will separate out the concept of how to identify what these signals are from how NOT to react.

These subtle, internal signals may come in several forms, but often times have a theme of “I want more out of my life” or “I need to find my purpose”. Also, don’t get hung up on the statements, I’m trying to portray a concept. What is taking place is an urge for something else, to pursue something bigger than yourself, more meaningful than what you’re doing right now. You might start experiencing a sense of dissatisfaction. At first, this sense may make you feel restless and unclear about your life on many levels. We don’t talk about these feelings or urges and certainly our society doesn’t talk openly about them, other than the mid life crisis jokes. The feelings come first, which sparks off a period of self examination. It is through this period of self examination where things go really well or you become a cliché’. The process you must and will go through isn’t a quick one, so you don’t rush it. It is the catalyst for change, so you must embrace it, in all its glorious discomfort. Use this process to do your personal research. Read books enroll in classes, travel, and jump into life. Talk to people who do things that interest you. This is a rediscovery of yourself and you won’t find it by watching TV.

There are some things to avoid during this period. As I said, you don’t want to turn into a cliché’. Many people take this period of discomfort as a signal that their relationships are bad. So, they dump the one they’re with and head off to the next thing that looks fun. They might make a big fun purchase like a car. These actions are heading you in the wrong direction potentially. They are replacing the “having” part of life, so they will never satisfy you, which could trigger even more desperate measures. Like it or not, you have to go through that internal self examination, if you don’t, you rarely move forward in an exciting, meaningful way. You could stay in a loop of meaningless actions followed by personal dissatisfaction. These people will ultimately calm down to a degree but on the other side of it they keep a cynical outlook or a general sense of dissatisfaction. You can avoid this; life is and can be even more exciting on the other side of this change.

Here are my pearls of wisdom on mid life change. Know that it will happen to you, whether at 41 or 59, it happens to us all at different times. Because of where you are in life, it can move you in directions that can exceed your wildest imagination. No, the younger crowd hasn’t cornered the market on excitement. We have much more freedom – fewer hang ups. Be patient with yourself and the process for change. Nothing great was accomplished over night. Learn to dream all over again.

Why We Play Games

Posted by admin on March 24th, 2011 and filed under never sayings | No Comments »

We all like to play games, we all need to play games whether they are board games, video games, outdoor sports or just messing about with our partner games we all have an innate desire to play.

Playing is an essential part of our evolution. The experience gained by infants when they play games during their formative years is invaluable and teaches them the skills needed for later in life.

To share, know strengths and weaknesses, learn fairness and modesty are all vital components of our make up. Many species of the animal kingdom share the same patterns. You only have to study lion cubs, puppies or monkeys to see how they develop and hone essential skills whilst playing

When infants play games they develop their mental and cognitive abilities. They learn how to make judgements, take risks and importantly learn how to be less egocentric.

The old sayings “play to win” and “winning is everything” which interpreted would suggest we only play games to win and there is little point in playing if we do not win.

This is an opinion I do not subscribe to and many schools today are also attempting to change the perception on how we play games.

Some schools have now decided to abandon the parent’s race as it has simply become too competitive. Parents have become aggressive in their attempts to win when originally this race was designed to embarrass the parents and provide some lighthearted fun to the day. As a consequence injuries have occurred but the real damage is how their children perceive the way their parents compete. It stands to reason this aggressive behaviour will filter down and into the childs mind.

Through competition winners and losers are determined and this could possibly damage a childs self esteem if they are never on the winning side. Therefore today a greater emphasis is placed upon team events and the ethos of “Its the taking part that counts”

This political correctness is all well and good but a healthy competitive element should be present when we play games, especially sports. Without a fine balance it could equally be argued our children will not learn the skills needed to strive, do their very best in life and basically look after themselves.

Be humble in your victories and magnanimous in defeat and you will always find someone to play with.

Win or lose the most important reason we should play games is for fun! Whether it’s a simple game of cards or a football match we should really leave the competitive stuff to the professionals and just enjoy the game and remember to always shake hands after.

Uplift Your Emotional Strength and Confidence – 12 Motivational Quotes That Enrich and Empower

Posted by admin on March 22nd, 2011 and filed under never sayings | No Comments »

When you feel stressed, or slightly depressed, do you have an inner strength strategy you can turn to? And when you may feel worried, unsure, anxious or afraid, what kind of inner dialogue do you project in the face of this “gloom and doom parade”?

Affirmations are great. Positive self suggestion is great. But, I’m going to do you one better here. Following are 10 hand picked inner power/confidence/self-belief strengthening quotes from the over 1,900 quotes and sayings I’ve developed over the years. Whether you’re feeling nervous and in a slump…or just down in the dumps, read each thoughtfully and purposefully, and let the message of each embolden you with its wisdom.

Then you’ll have filled yourself with the spirit that can face up, brace up, act up…and succeed! And so, enjoy, prosper – and thrive:

1.) ” ‘Tomorrow’ can stretch into years – If you can do it now, just dig in and — Do It!”

2.) “What are you afraid of? ‘Uhh, well, I uh, I don’t know if I can do it’, you might say. Ok. That doesn’t mean you ‘can’t', it just means you don’t know if you can … How do you come to know if you can? You find out! Go ahead, my friend — Find Out!!”

3.) “Are you a tree who needs a ‘forest’? Or, are you willing to stand alone?”

4.) “Where you start off from isn’t the issue – Where you ultimately finish…is.”

5.) Let The REAL You Shine (for women) “And there’s a real you within your heart, just waiting to come ahead now … And she’s as capable as she is commanding — How does she come to touch your life, indeed, become your life? Be yourself, believe in yourself, and follow through with what you feel and know is right in your heart … You’ll find this real you within will never disappoint you;she’ll just do what is right, and what is needed to come through for you…always!”

6.) A NEW Beauty “Your beauty is also in your touch, your sensitivity, your compassion, your smile, your good and positive thoughts sent out toward others, your willingness to do as you would be done by — and the warm and genuine feelings you harbor, and freely extend outward toward others … And so you see, beauty is not just ‘skin deep’; beauty is truly soul deep

7.) “Along the way you will find strength, you will find and develop ability, you will come to know power’and you will come to find ever more of your self. As the journey continues, so will the finding.”

8.) “Push yourself from within, and keep on pushing ’til you arrive – For the only way to get what you say you’re after, is to work, stay ‘hungry’…and to strive!”

9.) “I can do no wrong through striving to advance, to improve, and masterfully triumph; I can only do wrong, if I don’t!”

10.) “You may not be as powerful as you ultimately want to be … But you’re certainly strong enough — Right NOW!”

11.) What Do THEY Know? “Do birds worry about what they’ll eat each day – or if they’ll eat? Do they worry about where they’ll roost each day – or where to go if and when it rains? Do they worry about how, and where to build their nest – or if they’ll be able to adequately provide for their offspring? Worry? Hey – birds start off each day singing – don’t they! What do you think birds understand, that you don’t?!”

12.) “Hey if life were truly so ‘impossible’ and tough, you would have ‘given up’ by now wouldn’t you! But you haven’t. And in the back of your mind, there’s still the desire that things, and you, can change, the hope that they will, and the willingness to do what you can, so they will … What do you think this tells you about life, and YOU?!”

The Many Parts of Website Localization

Posted by admin on March 20th, 2011 and filed under never sayings | No Comments »

Website localization is a varied process full of many layers. Skills with both programming and language are essential in making a website accessible and usable across a wide cultural audience. Unlike document translation it is much more difficult and there are many more aspects to consider.

The first difficult barrier in website localization will be converting over all the key metaphors, sayings, unique phrases and specific words that are used in the target language. It is important to consider what type of language your audience will be expecting. Make sure that you use the right language for the right group of people or you will find that you are not reaching your target audience. The use of the wrong language may also mean a complete misunderstanding of what you want your site to represent.

Pictures and Symbols are also important to consider when translating a website. Each culture has its own images. These images carry with it very specific feelings and connotations, whether positive or negative. Consider how targeting pictures of personnel might affect your message. Also consider your audience and how they will react to the imagery you are presenting to them. Symbols may not mean the same thing from country to country. Make sure you understand the differences and use symbols in the right way. Colors too may carry with it certain superstitions or cultural meaning. Make sure everything used in the site has been well researched and carries with it the meaning you intend.

Next, look closely at navigation. You may read a book from left to right but that won’t be true for every culture. If you design you website left to right for a culture reading from top to bottom they might find much of the meaning to be lost on them. Confusion will also abound.

Finally, what are you trying to share with your audience and how are you portraying that content. As in other document translation you want to make sure that the text represents what you are trying to share. Things such as various currencies, measurements, writing out dates or other such issues may be of importance to your audience.

There are many benefits for web localization, document translation and software localization. It will allow a company to increase revenue and reach a much wider audience. How else are you going to reach people if they can’t understand your product or what you are trying to convey or sell? By translating and creating a website that is user friendly across a wide variety of cultures, you will increase your chances of reaching people you never even thought possible.

Finally, remember that simply translating the content on the website isn’t going to be enough. There are so many aspects involved in the localization of a website. Think passed just the content to the colors, the symbols, the pictures, the language, theme, navigation and the content you are sharing with your audience. Ever single aspect of the site is going to make a positive or negative experience for your target audience. Make sure you are portraying what you really want to portray.

Find Inspiration at Work and Avoid Stress

Posted by admin on March 18th, 2011 and filed under never sayings | No Comments »

Do you find that when you get to the office, your motivation and inspiration for your daily work duties leaves you and you have no enthusiam for your work? Here are some helpful ideas to get you going towards a better work day!

Simple Ideas to find Inspiration at Work

One of the best ways to put yourself in a position to find the neccesary motivation is to make sure you are comfortable. You need to make sure your chair supports your back, your desk is at the right height, and you have an ergonomically correct keyboard and mouse. Repetitive strain injuries have been on the rise for some time now, so speak up and you just might find your employer willing to cooperate. Im sure he would rather adjust the environment rather than deal with a workers compensation claim!

If that is not so – Worst case: bring in your own office supplies or equipment. There’s no reason that your body has to suffer even if your boss is really stingy!

Clean Up and De-Clutter Your Workspace

I find inspiration by getting rid of the clutter on my desk and getting everything back to tidy! A cluttered workspace can zap you of your creativity because you spend more time trying to find things than actually getting your work done.

Look at your workspace objectively and ask yourself: “What absolutely NEEDS to be here?” Remove the things that make you feel claustrophobic, stop hoarding rubbish and toss the things you never use. File or bin anything else as your work items should be filed away in an organizational system that works for you.

Here’s the bottom line: just hold on to the things that are vital for your daily chores or will propell you towards success in your duties! Keeping anything else serves no purpose and adds nothing more than clutter and distraction. Then, all this clutter zaps your motivation and inspiration, so avoid it! Now, if you do this, you will feel so much better! You will be more relaxed and able to think more clearly.

How Can You Create an Inspirational Computing Experience?

Are you in an office? do you spend the majority of your time on a computer? Do you ever clean up your computer? or do you have 72,000 emails sitting around and files you never use saved to your hard drive? Clean out your computer! Delete all your temporary internet files and your computer will run faster and then bring inspiration into your workspace through inspirational wallpapers.

Now, these usually free downloads can be very helpful in inspiring you during that long 8-10 or 12 hours! Try checking out a picture of the Bahamas. I for one, know just how hard it is to stare at a screen all day and remain motivated – its tough. But if you have to stare at it – make it something Inspirational!

You can check out these wallpapers when you are having a hard time getting started, getting motivated, or just finding the inspiration to push forward. Inspirational wallpapers typically contain beautiful landscapes with inspirational quotes or sayings. Sometimes all you need to get going is a gentle push in the right direction, and inspirational wallpapers just might be what the doctor ordered. It really can be that simple!

The great thing about these wallpapers is that they don’t take up any physical space, so there’s no need to worry about clutter. You also can use some of the images and quotes on the wallpaper to create screensavers for your computer. Your computer has the potential to inspire you in so many ways!

Inspiration can often seem impossible to find at work, but you may need to think outside of the box and find ways to get inspired. Keep things simple and don’t let clutter get you down.

A really good idea is to listen to your Ipod or similar – if you can!

Anytime I need aboost – I put on a personal development cd and listen deeply and contently. This is particularly helpful even when I happen to be really down or stressed!

Now , if you are like me, and work from home – it can be really tough to stay on track somedays. If you have tried all of the above only to find you are still missing something, then get up and go for a walk around the block!

After all, this is the main benefit to working for yourself! You can get up and go anytime you want to, especially if its for a quick rejuvenation walk! My block has water on 3 sides – its almost an island. I have the beach on one side, an inlet on the other and a lagoon on the other! I have an extemely pituresque outlook and feel very priveledged!

When you feel down for whatever reason, use self help techniques to find motivation and inspiration at work and have a great day!

Power of Credit Vs. Spiritual Guidance/mambo Jumbo/advice/fortune Telling. 10/20/08

(Copyrighted)

Before I being telling you a very small portion of my recent incidents, allow me to share my belief. I am not a religious person, although I attend churches, temple and used to go to mosques (years ago). However, I believe in God. Everyday, my trust in Him increases. In simple words, there is not a day that I loudly do not announce, “God I Love you and my life is yours.” “God you gave me life and my existence. Every breath that I take, every move that I make, everything that I eat or drink and so much more, is either because you allow me to do so, you provide for me or you make it happen.” It is all because I have seen Hell and life both in the past fifteen (15) years (BEYOND YOUR BELIEF). I believe in a few old sayings: “Love one another”, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” “Think right, do right and talk right.” I also believe in the sayings: “Knowledge is wealth,” “More is lost by indecision than by bad decision”, “Ask and you shall receive,” and “Tomorrow is not promised to anyone.” I use this last one sensibly and carefully as some people misunderstand its true meaning.

However, before you read the rest, I want you to understand that I am NOT bragging. I am just sharing the true fact of established credit and how a good and long term established credit could make you credit invincible.

As much as I do not believe in fortune telling, palm reading, card or coffee reading concepts, once a while to just throw my money away, I would listen to the advice of friends and drive with them to a few of these places, listening to what the ”so called, spiritual readers” had to say. It should read like this, “To my dismay, I had done this three times since 1994, when I was seeking for a way to see how I could turn my horrible life around, as described in my book “When I-RAN,” available to the public in four months. Every time to my disappointment, I would lose a little money just listen to some nonsense that would never come true. Of course, you must understand that from 1994 through 2000, I was working on some large scaled business application/data storage software packages (for the laymen out there- large computer programs for multi-million dollar businesses). I needed a sense of direction and was lost. God was not answering me (or that I thought –He was not). I guess I was expecting Him to come and squeeze & twist my ears and force me to listen. I guess it is called knowledge and patience (that I was lacking and still am).

Anyway, for the past two years, due to my massive legal battles and … (read in the “When I-RAN” book), my former wife asked me to contact Sylvia Brown (the “so-called world renounced psychic”). I asked my wife, how she learned about Sylvia. She stated, “Through the Montel Show.” Since I heard about Montel before (although I never listened to his programs), I decided to listen to his program when he had Sylvia on his show. After a couple of times, I became doubtful as I could not understand how a person can tell a group of audience members what the after life or “other side” looks like. Then, I understood. No one actually knows what the after life is about, yet people are easily deceived. Who knows? I can have you hear anything you want and you would not know the difference anyway. My wife persuaded me by stating that Sylvia helped law enforcement agencies to solve murder crimes. Then I said, ”So the police departments do not need to invest millions of dollars and hire full time investigators –spend weeks, months or even years to solve a crime. All they need to do is hire Sylvia and her son (Chris) to go around the country and let these two finger point the criminals and the cases would be solved so much easier and more efficiently. This way millions of taxpayers’ dollars would be saved, the district Attorneys and the governors would look like angels, and would be happy to hold on to their jobs for life.”

For years, I believed that if the psychics had the ability to predict, then they all would be able to win the lottery all across this country (if not the globe) and did not need to read someone’s palm, card, a coffee cup or have a crystal ball. See, it is easy to predict the unknowns and unpredictable, if you discipline yourself. You may wonder how? Then, read the book “When I-RAN.” However, predicting someone else’s life or future, is a bit out of our hands, for those who believe in God, and is unusually suspicious when it comes to those who do not believe in God.

Anyway, as a result of my wife’s persistence, I agreed to blow away several hundred dollars by calling Sylvia Brown’s organizations. Of course, after a long recording and leaving several messages, I became frustrated and left an educated yet, frustrating message. As a result, I received a phone call and was told that Sylvia’s schedule is booked six (6) to nine (9) months in advance and Chris’ is booked ahead about 3-4 months.

However, to have Sylvia read my life it requires the fee of $750.00 advanced payment of several months and for Chris, it requires payment of $450.00 several months ahead.

The organization would not take any sort of payment but a credit card. To my amusement, would you like to know why? It is so that you would NOT be able to dispute the charge and that by the time the reading comes into the schedule, you would have no way to dispute as your time to dispute would have legally passed.

As a result of persistence, I authorized the charge of $450.00 since I needed to get a sense of direction for a couple of my legal issues.

This was the result of Mr. Chris Brown’s reading:
He insisted that I must stop my litigations, as I would lose them all and I would be spending a lot of time and money for no reasons. He even stated that I would be throwing good money after bad. (MBNA/BOA wants to settle).

He said we do not have any health issues…. And even commented about my family’s…

He said that my finances would be on the up and up and I would not suffer and insisted that I had to continue with my real estate and that only work on my book writing as a hobby and not as a source of income. Again, he emphasized that I must stop litigations.

He also told my wife, who had been recently demoted at her work, not to worry and in June she would be promoted and it would all workout best for her. He persisted that there should be no need for litigation in that matter either.

He also suggested that our relationship, the severely damaged relationship, would workout as he even commented by saying, “You kids need to work it out and everything will be alright.”

He noted a few other things.

I guess God had His own agenda and did not like for me to place my life, future, or trust in the hands or mouths of a ”so called spiritual reader (a fortune teller).”

Let me describe what transpired immediately after the reading of February 29, 2008. A week or so later, my investment account of many years with Ameritrade/Accutrade was liquidated as a result of repeated errors of Accutrade and its representatives’ belligerence, ignorance and stubbornness. I was placed into foreclosure by SunTrust bank shortly thereafter and came to a point in life that I, who never stutters in speaking, practically lost my sense of speech to the point that a friend came to my house baby sitting me, making certain that nothing would happen to me.

Not long thereafter, my aunt who raised me since the age of four, died and three weeks later my mom, who I lacked seeing so much and missed spending time with, died in a horrible car crash.

Yet this is October 19, 2008 as I am writing this, my wife is still at the same demoted position, and we live in separate houses because “we kids could not work it out.”

Then, I realized that I was right all along. No one knows anything about my life other than the God who created me. The knowledge and ability He gave me is what makes or breaks me and it is not what a ”so called fortune teller” tells me. God gave me several paths to choose, and I must choose one that would be most desirable and fulfilling to me. Although from time to time, just like any other human being, I may scream and say, “GOD, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?” Then, I realize, he put water, fire, hills and cliffs in front of me, told me the differences and showed me what will happen if I choose each. I did not want to listen and decided to hug the fire and jump off the cliff.

I further realized that I could become credit invincible under His guidance. Allow me to explain this part.

Immediately after having a foreclosure by SunTrust Mortgage Department along with a series of +150 days late payment, a late payment by another creditor and also being involved in a litigation with MBNA/Bank of America due to a “Charge Off” all on my credit reports, I was able to buy several expensive, new, or almost new vehicles ALL in a matter of less than seven months. Guess how good my credit was that all these negative impacts (describe above) had little to no impact on my buying power? You may say, “Okay, so what, you are suffering from high interest rates.” Yes, you are right. My interest rates on these vehicles are—are you ready to read…?

1. A truck of $25,000.00 that has a rate of 4.9%,
2. A fully loaded Avalanche of $48,000.00 that has a rate of 5.5%,
3. A Porsche Cayenne that has an interest rate of 0.99% (using a credit card),
4. A fully loaded Silverado 2500 that has an interest rate of 5.75%, and
5. An Infiniti M series at a rate of 1.99% at a price over 50 is my most recent purchase.
I have all these vehicles and am making payments on all.

Now, let’s see if you understand what I am trying to say.  In a matter of a few months in 2008, I have all of these on my credit report along with massive credit card limits;

1. I received a recent foreclosure and several 150+ day late payments for one mortgage loan; (soon to file action against)
2.    I received a recent late payment on another loan;
3.    I also had a credit card “Charge Off” of an amount -almost $14,000.00;
4.    I Bought my first vehicle and still had enough credit and buying power to buy the second vehicle;
5. Negotiate, paid, bought and repaired a house for soon to be Ex,
6.    Still had buying power and credit left to buy the third vehicle;
7. Have a judgment on my credit file; because, I was mourning the death of two mothers back to back, fighting a wife, negotiating, transacting and fixing a house for a wife; therefore, I forgot I had another life.
8.    Bought another house (not Ex) using a credit card along with small line of credit;
9.    Still had buying power to buy the fourth one;
10. Still had credit to buy yet another.
11. And am still fighting.

If you still did not get the message, it means every time you get a loan, that loan and purchase reduces your chances of making the next purchase. Each new purchase/loan must be settled and remain on your credit report for at minimum six (6) months for it to create any positive impact. This means, any new loan will drop your credit score for the first six months, as it is NOT an established account. Now, if your overall credit history is not a long terms history of 5 years or more, a new loan will take even up to a year to become a positive impact.

Do I need to continue or did you get the picture?

Do you want to answer me about my questions of which do I believe- the power of credit or power of spiritual readers/fortune tellers?

Power of Credit Vs. Spiritual Guidance/mambo Jumbo/advice/fortune Telling. 10/20/08

Plant Those Seeds!

Plant Those Seeds!

What the heck am I talking about, you ask?

The other night at dinner, I was trying to explain to my 20-year-old son why he never has any money. I said, “If you keep eating your seeds, you will never have any crops!”

My wife and the kids just looked at me as if I had two heads. I could almost hear my kids thinking, this is just another one of dad’s weird sayings. I couldn’t believe they didn’t know what seed money was all about… especially my wife Pattie who watched these principles in action over the last 25 years in our lives.

I realized that even the people closest to me didn’t fully understand this concept. Wow! Given the state of our country’s economy, I felt compelled to explain it to them and to anyone else who might benefit.

My understanding of “seed money” came from my dad. He began teaching me the basics of money management when I was about the same age as my kids are now. (And I was about as interested in what he was trying to teach me then as my kids are now. Not very!) Nonetheless, this information did sink in – and when I decided to apply it to my life, it was profound.Dad always said, “It’s not what you earn, it’s what you KEEP that counts.”

In order to accumulate wealth, you will need to apply the Law of Sowing and Reaping to your money. Here is my spin on this: once you have a small amount of money saved (seeds), start investing it immediately. As your money grows, reinvest your gains (your new seeds) into another commodity. Think about it…if you continue to consume all of your money (seeds) every week, and leave none for saving (planting), how can you expect any growth-or in this case, wealth?

It sounds so simple, yet few people ever start planting the seeds that will grow into the wealth they desire. As you begin to do so, remember diversity is key. You don’t want to plant only corn; what if it’s a lousy year for corn? Investing in a variety of “crops” makes more sense. I have planted seeds in real estate, the stock market and several businesses of my own. All of them have paid handsome dividends over the years. Some crops do better than others, but as long as you keep planting those seeds in a variety of places and reinvesting the growth, you will be far ahead of the pack!

Many well-educated people believe that wealth is a result of having a higher income. This is absolutely not the case.

If you want to stop having to work for money and have your money start working for you, remember: Wealth is created by investment, not income!

So… where do you start to acquire your seeds?

There are only two tried-and-true ways that I know of:

1. Save your money.

Pay yourself first; the typical millionaire saves at least 10% to 20% of his/her income. Start setting aside a min. of 10% of your income and put it into a “seed” savings account. As soon as you have enough to start investing, do so. No waiting, no excuses, no withdrawing money for any other reason-invest it! Time can either be your enemy or your friend… meaning that, over time, you will either live beyond your means (see #2 below) and dig your hole deeper, or you will learn how to make your money earn you more money.

Here is a great quote from one of the richest entrepreneurs of his time:

“I have found the Midas Touch. Pay yourself first. Save 10% before making your budget, instead of after, as I used to do. I never had anything left after making my budget.”~ Andrew Carnegie

2. Spend less than you make.

No one likes to think about doing without certain luxuries or giving up things they enjoy, but if you want to thrive-not just survive-during uncertain economic times, Accept a little short-term pain (discomfort) in order reap huge long term gains. Take a serious look at every single one of your personal expenditures and then make a decision to free up some cash to put into your seed account so it can start growing. The truth is that most self-made millionaires are very frugal and only spend money on what is necessary and of value to them. That is why they are able to accumulate and multiply their wealth so much faster. For instance, I refuse to buy a first class plane ticket or pay $300 for a pair of shoes or purchase brand new cars because I think that it is a complete waste of good seed money. However, I will happily pay $15,000 a year to send my daughter to private high school to prepare her for college, because that is an investment in her future and well worth the price to me.

Reducing your expenses and buying fewer things does not send out the message that you don’t have enough money. On the contrary, I believe it paints a picture of someone who is fiscally responsible and likely to have even more money to manage with each passing year.

Cutting expenses is often an easier way to save than trying to earn more money. Taking into account your time, work related costs, and paying more taxes on that money, every three dollars you earn as income only really nets you about one dollar to invest. In other words, for every dollar you can cut in expenses is worth three dollars in income!

The principles behind seed money are easy, but the application, for most, is anything but. Many people think they don’t need to learn more about money management until they have more money. The truth is, if you don’t learn to manage the money you have now, chances are you’ll never have more money to manage.

I encourage you to think about putting together some seed money, keeping in mind the basic Law of Sowing and Reaping: it’s not what you earn, it’s what you keep and invest that counts. You will be well on your way to having multiple crops yielding enough wealth to enjoy life on your own terms.

Tip: In spite of the daunting headlines, there could not be a better time to invest your seeds. The notion that you should always buy low and sell high is one most would agree with, but unfortunately that’s not what people tend to do when they are scared. Be proactive. Learn the ins and outs of investing so you don’t have to rely on advice from others. Choose investments you are comfortable with, and soon you will see those seeds grow. Good luck to all you new farmers!
