Enlightenment

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under self quotes | 49 Comments »

Let’s start at the beginning. The word ‘enlightenment’ means wisdom or understanding.

However, the English word ‘enlightenment’ broadly covers two areas: (1) religious (spiritual) enlightenment and also (2) secular (intellectual) enlightenment. What I find interesting is that those that claim intellectual enlightenment are usually the ones that reject spiritual concepts altogether as everything has to be scientifically proven – this is not possible, at the present time, with regard to many areas of  spiritual enlightenment.

Intellectual Enlightenment. This refers mainly to a European movement known as the Age of Enlightenment, also called the Age of Reason. People recognized the sad state of the human condition and the need for major reforms. The Enlightenment was less a set of ideas than it was a set of attitudes. At its center was a serious questioning of traditional institutions, customs, and morals referring to philosophical developments related to scientific rationality in the 17th and 18th centuries. Courtesy of Wikipedia

Spiritual Enlightenment.  The Lotus flower is commonly used as the symbol for Spiritual Enlightenment. It is a term used mainly relating to many South and East Asian religions, for example Buddhism and Hinduism.

Here is a quote from noted scientist Albert Einstein:“A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest… a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.- Albert Einstein

Some of the most popular quotes regarding Spiritual Enlightenment are:“to become one with yourself”, “to know your inner self” and“obtain inner peace”

Plainly speaking this translates into: Knowing yourself. You accept who you are. To be able to honor each person as they walk their own path and not infringe your own personal beliefs onto them. To know and accept that YOU are in control of your own life. You believe and accept in a ‘higher power’ and that you are an important part of this universal energy.

Also widely accepted is the fact that everyone is here for a reason and to become ‘Spiritually Enlightened’ means finding that reason and then acting upon it. Some people accept the above definition as ‘Spiritual Enlightenment’ whilst others are looking for yet more.

Their idea of spiritual enlightenment is all of the above, plus connection with the spirit world. Some people are born with these (psychic) abilities but for most of us these abilities have to be worked on. But through meditation, focus and an accepting mind, people can achieve varying levels of spirit connection.

I hope this article gives you an understanding of ‘Spiritual Enlightenment’ without being drowned in a sea of beliefs from many different religions. Whilst most religions differ in their teachings, their basic beliefs in spiritual enlightenment are very similar.

Gran Sasso, Italy – The Best of Both World in Just One Place

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under like sayings | No Comments »

Scandinavian snow, Dolomite rock, Mediterranean sun. We are not talking about three different places 2000 km away from one another but we are talking about one single place: the “Gran Sasso” mountain in Abruzzo, central Italy. It is nearly exaggerated in its contrasts, its dimension, its mighty natural forces.

The mountain range of Gran Sasso rises grandiose, a bit out of scale, with about twenty peaks above 2000 metres a.s.l., hit by winds and snow storms for 6 months per year. Here, especially when the Balkan draughts arrive, can snow a lot more than on the Alps, even 80 cm in a single night.

On the canals of Corno Grande (Big Horn), the highest peak of the Apennines with its 2.912 metres a.s.l., the snow lasts until July, even though the only glacier of the range, the Calderone, can be considered extinct.

The Gran Sasso is not only wild peaks and bare rocks but is also plenty of small peculiar villages such as Isola del Gran Sasso, also called “the saying village” for the door and window lintels are carved with wise Latin sayings, Castelli famous for its majolica, Santo Stefano di Sessanio which has gain notoriety for its recent conversion in Albergo Diffuso (diffuse hotel) and then the lonely village of Rocca Calascio with its fortress, a brave sentinel at 1460 metres a.s.l. since the VIII century.

The Gran Sasso is, of course, synonymous of winter sports. Here skiing was born during the Fascism with the first cableway that linked Fonte Cerreto to Campo Imperatore. This big plateau, that opens all of a sudden at an altitude of about 2000 metres a.s.l., is particularly suitable for cross-country skiing and ski excursions. A spectacular white plateau 19 Km long and 4 Km wide that is hard to forget.

The ski resort of Campo Imperatore can easily compete with the ones on the Alps with its 20 Km of pists. The off-pists of Tre Valloni and the wild Valle Fredda (Cold Valley) are very appreciated at top levels.

The ultimate ski lifts are the only modernity permission in a planet called Gran Sasso that seems to be unchangeable, where the building developments aimed to satisfy the ever growing demand and offer of tourist resorts are respectful of both tradition and environment, matching the standards owed to one of the most beautiful and important Natural Parks in Italy.

For the ones interesting in investing in property in Italy, the property market around the Gran Sasso area and in all the Abruzzo region offers great opportunities.

Prices of property in Abruzzo are still surprisingly low, especially in rural areas where is possible to buy a country home or a stone house to be restored with some land for less than ?80,000.

But rural areas in Abruzzo are not the only ones offering great investment opportunities, there is plenty of properties to buy at an affordable price by the coast, where with an investment as little as ?130,000 is possible to buy a 2 bedroom apartment facing the sea, with the possibility to rent the property as an holiday let and get also a good income to help pay the investment.

Construction – Accounting and Taxation

Posted by admin on March 17th, 2010 and filed under self quotes | 5 Comments »

How does a contractor building a mixed – use condominium complex, faced with eye –pop – ping premium quotes from traditional insurance companies, insure his general and sub – contractors and still meet his margin – of profit target?

The answer lies in employing the versatility of an alternative risk vehicle, more commonly known as a captive. Set up as a division of the contractor’s parent company, the captive is closely held insurance company that is owned by the company and only insures its self-determined risks. Within a captive, specify types of policies, such as those that cover the risks associated ith general and sub- contractor issues can be established.

Captive and CCIP basis

Instead of paying for traditional insurance, a financially sound, well managed contracting company has the option of creating and owning its own insurance company, an option that comes with many benefits. Unlikely self –insurance, a captive protects against risk, may allow for tax – deductible premiums, controls claims, and retains the profits for its owners. In essence, risks are transferred to the captive. The owners of the captive determine the types and degree of covered risks, ownership structure, costs, and profit-taking. Since premiums are paid directly to the captive, owners reap the benefits and keep the profits of the captive insurance company themselves.

Within the captive, a contractor – controlled insurance policy (CCIP) “ wraps –up” or sets up a single insurance policy, which specifically names all the construction participants for coverage on a given project. A CCIP provides seamless coverage and simplifications claims resolutions between generals and subs. The coverage is generally broader than a traditional policy and litigation can be held to a minimum. …….Cont.

How to Increase Your Milk Supply

Posted by admin on March 17th, 2010 and filed under like sayings | 15 Comments »

How To Increase Your Milk Supply

It’s all about the supply and demand theory.

The more the breast milk is being emptied, your breasts will respond by making even more milk. Emptying your breast milk can be done through directly latching the baby on or through pumping out the milk. Increasing your milk supply may take many days to happen but this will definitely happen if you are consistent in telling your breast and brain that you need more milk. Every one will have enough milk for the baby; this is the nature of life. If you keep saying that you just do not have enough milk, it’s probably you are not trying hard enough.

The following will help increase your supply of breast milk:

  • Breastfeed your baby frequently and regularly, even at night. Breastfeed your baby 8 to 12 times a day, or every 2 to 3 hours. Do so whenever he shows signs that he wants to be fed. Over time, your baby will learn how to breastfeed faster. Constant stimulation will increase supply. Try not to feed your baby only when he started crying. When he starts to cry, he is already hungry and trying to calm the hungry baby may not be easy. He may not even want to cooperate to stay still to suckle.
  • Completely empty both breasts at each feeding session. When your baby finishes his feed on one breast, offer him your other breast as well. If your baby refuses to suckle anymore, you may also hand express or pump to completely empty your breasts after feeding your baby. It is a must to empty both the breast so that the correct signal will be sent out and that is, milk is not enough, please start to produce more for the next feed.
  • If separated from your baby, express or pump on a regular schedule. Please do so regularly to help you keep your milk supply from going down. Even if you are overseas and it will not be possible to get those milk to your baby. Pump and pour away. You should empty your milk about every four hours to maintain your supply. Regular expressing or pumping can also help increase your supply. You may need to express or pump more often when trying to increase your supply.
  • Get enough rest and sleep when you are breastfeeding. Rest and sleep well will help your body produce more breast milk. Try to sleep or rest when your baby is sleeping and try to get as many help as possible at the beginning of motherhood so that you do not feel too tired. Being tired or feeling stressed will decrease the supply of breast milk.
  • Drink plenty of fluid. When you are breastfeeding, your body loses a lot of fluid. You will need to replenish the water lost. To increase milk supply, drink plenty of fluid, nursing tea or red dates tea. There are sayings that red dates tea helps in increasing milk supply but result varies from individuals. Some other food that were said to increase milk supply includes fishes and papaya.
  • Record feeding and pumping information. You may want to record down when and how much if you express milk by hand or pump and how long the baby suckle at each breast. This will help you see how often and how well your baby is feeding. It will also let you see how much milk you are getting when you express out the milk and if there is any increase over time.

What can cause my milk supply to decrease?

  • Shorter or less frequent breastfeeding or expressing sessions.
  • Getting pregnant soon after having a baby.
  • Not being able to latch on the baby.
  • Pressure on your breasts when sleeping face down or wearing bra that is too tight.
  • Stress and fatigue.
  • Use of certain substances and chemicals.

    • Drinking too much alcohol.
    • Smoking.
    • Taking certain medicines.

Health Insurance in Florida is Out of Control

Posted by admin on March 15th, 2010 and filed under self quotes | 16 Comments »

Health Insurance premiums are out of control! The trend of higher costs and lower benefits is on the rise. Florida Health Insurance web suggests using an insurance professional to find the best available rates for your individual, small business, or self employed health insurance.

Voted the number one insurance portal by Florida consumers, Florida Health Insurance Web, reports nearly three million Floridians without health insurance in Florida. Thats nearly a quarter of the states population. That in mind medical bankruptcy is up – the leading cause of bankruptcy today.

Every Floridian without health insurance coverage is just one illness away from financial ruin. Florida Health Insurance Web, www.FloridaHealthInsuranceWeb.com, advises consulting an online source such as its service, before choosing any health insurance policy.

In the past, applying for health insurance had been an eye opening experience for many.

The difficulty obtaining affordable health insurance rates in the sunshine state has always been hard, but now it has reached epic proportions. Florida residents may experience any number of insurance-related problems, including claim denials, sky-high premiums, cancellations, or refusals to grant or renew their policies. Florida’s Governor Crist vows to fix the problem and bring affordable insurance to all Florida’s residents. Democrats are pushing a health-care-reform legislation during the current legislative session. They are sponsoring a bill that would ask voters in 2008 to insert a guarantee in the constitution that all children in Florida would have access to health insurance by July, 2010.

At a recent insurance conference in Orlando, one Florida health insurance agent, Margaret

Margolas explained the process, “Before issuing a health insurance policy in Florida, insurance companies offering individual health insurance policies evaluate certain information about you to determine how likely you are to have a claim.” This is called “underwriting.”

She spoke to hundreds of business owners about health care for the uninsured and individual company’s role in delivering that health care. Margolas said, “Individuals looking for health insurance usually cannot find policies to cover past health problems.” How does someone with a pre-existing condition get coverage? Hiring a health insurance professional “consultant” may help. These consultants usually work at no cost to consumers; their fees are paid by the health care provider.

For any health policy, a company might consider age, occupation, current health status and medical history. They can also look at lifestyle, and habits to see what type of health risks a person may have. If individual risk factors indicate that a claim is likely, the company may charge more for the policy or even worse, refuse coverage.

Before applying for an individual health insurance policy, lorida Health Insurance Web advises talking to a qualified health insurance consultant for advice on which policy to choose.

Most individual health insurance companies in Florida have certain clauses regarding risk factors and pre-existing conditions. Limits on risk and “pre-existing conditions” are a standard part of most health plans. These limits ensure that benefits are paid only for conditions that occur naturally and only after your health coverage becomes effective. Paying only for approved services and covered conditions helps control healthcare costs and prevent possible insurance abuse.

The legal aspect of all this is “failure to disclose pre-existing conditions could jeopardize future claims” or invalidate the policy. Individual health insurance companies may completely exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions by attaching an “exclusion rider” to the policy.

If an applicant lists their pre-existing conditions on the application and the company issues coverage without attaching an exclusion rider, the company must begin covering the pre-existing conditions when the policy’s pre-existing waiting period expires. Pre-existing condition waiting periods can be a maximum of two years on individual policies. Exclusion riders can be in-force indefinitely.

In Florida, and in other states like Texas, if a person moves from a group, government, or church health plan to an individual health insurance policy, they will not be subject to a new pre-existing condition waiting periods if they had 18 months of prior coverage, with no more than 63 days lapse in coverage.

What else can someone do to get individual health plans? Corporations are able to purchase health insurance that cover pre-existing conditions for their employees so many CPA’s recommend using S-corporations status instead of individual. Simply create an S-Corp online from a state like Nevada or Delaware, ($350) and then apply for insurance under the corporation.

Buying insurance without an S-Corp means more limitations to your policy; chances are the end result will be some sort of “Cash for Services” Plan, a PPO, or HMO plan. These plans are the most typical.

Margolas says, “One word of advice when it comes to applying for an individual health insurance policy: applicants should be forthcoming and honestly answer all questions about medical conditions. Withholding information about an illness or medication is bad, the health insurance company may deny subsequent claims.”

Ask questions, especially if the wording of the policy is difficult. Be sure about specifics of the health insurance coverage. Don’t be afraid to ask for clarification about policy details. For more help, have a Florida health insurance consultant give you an explanation. Try to get answers in writing.

If a person loses health insurance coverage from their job, they may opt to continue coverage with insurance called COBRA. COBRA stands for (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act). COBRA is a law that makes it mandatory for an employer to provide the option of retaining membership in their health insurance plan. However applicants will have to pay the entire monthly premium part which was paid by the company earlier. Most people are surprised at the high cost of the COBRA premium; which may run up to 500$ a month.

If none of the above ways to reduce insurance costs work,

then the only way is to go for standard individual health insurance policy. As mentioned earlier they are usually costly, but online websites can help Floridian’s weed through the mounds of policies and select the best price and coverage available.

About Florida Health Insurance Web Florida Health Insurance Web is an online source of health insurance agents and insurance carriers covering individuals in the state of Florida. Individuals can get insurance quotes, search rates online by city, read current insurance news and events.

Questions to Ask Before Ending a Relationship

Posted by admin on March 15th, 2010 and filed under like sayings | 18 Comments »

There are so many pop quizzes and little tests on the Internet these days that help people decide who they should marry and when they should stop seeing them.  Correction: they aren’t new.  They have been around for a billion years in newspapers, magazines and at parties.  It is so unfortunate that so many people actually think they get something from them.  I wonder how many people actually run their lives based on slogans, sayings and fortune cookies.

A relationship that could, or has led to a marriage is a very serious thing.  You’re talking about committing yourself to a lifetime of acceptance and support of another person.  Wouldn’t you agree that the person you are committed to meets or exceeds all of the things you value the most?  Far too many people look beyond the flaws of the person they are with in order to maintain a relationship.  The relationship, in those cases, is obviously more important than the person they are having their relationship with.

The most important question to ask before ending a relationship is, “Is this the kind of person I want to spend my entire life with?”  If the answer is “no”, it is time to openly and kindly end the relationship.  Take some time to write down the qualities you most admire in a person and then look for that person; you will find your soul mate.  One more thing: the above does not apply to marital relationships!

Increase The Value Of Your Home – Build Or Extend

Posted by admin on March 13th, 2010 and filed under self quotes | 2 Comments »

This article is part one in a two-part series on making home improvements.

Once upon a time, investing in property was a sure-fire way to make money, but as the property market has slowed down over recent years, homeowners need to be wise about how they maintain and improve their property in order to make money from it as buyers are becoming more demanding. There’s a wide range of upgrades that can be made, from large-scale property development to a spot of DIY. A great deal of capital will be required for the former and isn’t a realistic option for many people, but self improvements needn’t cost the earth and if done well can make a big difference to property value.

A word of warning though: you won’t always get back what you put into a property – you’ll need to spend your money wisely in order to make a profit. The biggest mistake that most people make is to focus too much on cosmetic improvements without making a real difference to the key features of the property. What homebuyers always want is space, so whatever improvements you make, you should aim to create more space (or ensure that whatever changes you make aren’t at the cost of space). As a general rule, the more bedrooms the better – this is what sells a house (although only if they are all a reasonable size).

There are numerous ways in which to increase the space in your house – converting a loft or cellar, adding a garage, building an extension or conservatory, redesigning the garden or moving interior walls.

Loft conversions are a specialist job and should be done by an expert. There are various building regulations that must be adhered to. For a start, most lofts aren’t designed to cope with the loads that domestic use would entail – in many houses even the cold water tank is mounted between the roof rafters as the loft floor isn’t load-bearing. The ceiling and floor will therefore have to be strengthened, and the roof may also have to be altered to ensure that it can support the windows that will be fitted. Fire safety is another aspect that must be considered – materials must be fire-resistant and the space must be designed so that there is a suitable escape route. This will affect the design of the staircase, doors and windows. To be on the safe side, it’s best to employ the services of an architect or structural engineer.

If you have a cellar in your home, you may be able to convert it into a utility room, a playroom, a gym or even a home cinema! Bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens in a basement space aren’t a good idea unless you’re able to fit windows, as they can be dark and need constant artificial light. Cellar conversions are also best done by an expert, as they are also subject to building regulations. You’ll need to waterproof and insulate the floor and walls to make the space warm and dry. This will involve coating the walls and floor in a damp-proof membrane and installing drainage and a sump for channelling any water or moisture. Fans and/or humidity controls may also need to be fitted to ensure adequate airflow.

Building an extension is a major undertaking. You’ll need to employ an architect or a surveyor to draw up plans to submit for planning permission and building regulation approval by the local council before you start building work. Once you’ve got a clear idea of what you want done, the next step is to work out the costs involved in the building work and draw up a clear financial plan. Costs often spiral out of control once the work is underway and it can be difficult to keep within budget. Factor a contingency fund into your plans when working out how to finance the project to cover unexpected expenditure. The most common methods of paying for extensions are by remortgaging or taking out a personal loan. Speak to your mortgage provider and various banks to work out the best deal for you.

Think about how the extension will affect the existing space before making any decisions. If the garden is very small, the finished house will be completely out of proportion to the plot and may reduce its marketability. Garages are valuable storage places, so think carefully before knocking down a garage to make space for an extension as it could end up backfiring – a large house with no garage and no car space may be very difficult to sell. Instead, consider extending over the garage if it is attached to the house, or knocking down a detached garage and building a new one adjoining the house so that you can create living space above it. If getting rid of the garage is the only feasible option, try to redesign the garden to allow plenty of driveway space as it can be very difficult to find street parking in many urban areas.

A much simpler option for increasing living space is to get a conservatory. Compared to extensions they can be much cheaper and they don’t always require planning permission – although you should always check before undertaking any work. It depends on the size and type of the existing property (detached, semi-detached, terraced, flat), whether it has been extended before, the size of the planned conservatory, the amount of space in the garden, and whether the property is in a conservation area or is a listed building. Speak to your local council for advice. The cost of building a conservatory can vary dramatically – a conservatory kit from a DIY store is the cheapest option, but even between professional companies there can be a big difference in prices. Get plenty of quotes before making any decisions.

If you’re daunted by the prospect of having major building work done, you may want to think about redesigning the existing interior space in your home. It’s easy to knock down old partitions and put up new ones, but of course you’ll need to check whether any of the walls are load-bearing and it’s best to speak to an expert before you begin. One large bedroom could be divided into two, or an ensuite toilet could be added. Make sure that you don’t end up decreasing the actual living space though. Dividing an existing bedroom in order to create an additional one will not add any value if the two new rooms are too small – in fact, it could end up decreasing the value of the property. Alternatively, you may simply want to move a wall to increase the size of a key room such as your living room at the expense of an adjoining room, as long as the adjoining room will still end up a reasonable size.

Even redesigning your garden can make an enormous difference. Think of your garden as outdoor living space – a deck, terrace or patio can make a garden much more useable. Car space is also an important feature for homebuyers nowadays. If you don’t currently have any off-street parking, think about building a carport or driveway.

Whatever you decide to do to your home to increase its value, bear in mind these useful tips:

* Do your research – find out whether the work will be worth the expenditure.

* Always check whether you need planning permission.

* Speak to an expert for advice – there may be many potential snags and pitfalls that you’re not aware of.

* Work out a budget in advance.

* Only do what you can afford – don’t overstretch your finances.

How Self-published Books Create Highly Profitable Businesses

Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 and filed under self quotes | No Comments »

Customers expect a book to cost $9.95, $19.95, or perhaps as much as $49.95. With production costs, that doesn’t give you a lot of money to promote your books and generate sales. It depends on your income goals, but if it consists of selling your books alone, you’d have to sell hundreds or thousands of books a month to earn any substantial income. Your operation costs and marketing expenses would quickly exceed the revenues.

There is a better way. When you use your self-published books as a sales tool to identify customers and make additional sales, then your self-published books become a money-generating tool that can drive a million-dollar business.

Here Are 3 Examples of How Your Self-Published Books Can Create a Highly Profitable Business:

1. Well-known speaking and presentation skills coach builds a massive list of targeted, hungry prospects and a multi-million dollar business with a self-published book.

Speaking and presentation skills coach, Susan Berkley self-published her book, Speak to Influence: How to Unlock the Hidden Power of Your Voice, (http://www.speaktoinfluence.com) in 1999. The book has sold over 14,000 copies, is now in the second printing of its second edition, and continues to sell every month. Susan still gets quoted from her book, even though it is over seven years old. In fact, the book recently scored blurbs in Glamour and Self magazines without even trying.

More importantly, Susan invites her book buyers to sign up for her free e-zine through her website. In the e-zine, Susan offers subscriptions to her monthly paid newsletter, and promotes her products, teleseminars and consulting/coaching services. The revenue from these additional services and products is many times higher than anything she has received from publishing her book. Best of all, Susan can easily market new products whenever she likes. If she decides she needs more money, she creates another program, sends an e-mail to her list, and makes sales—all from a list created through her self-published book.

2. A mortgage expert increases web traffic and generates millions of dollars of revenue for his mortgage brokerage company from his self-published book.

Brian Sacks’ self-published book, Yes, You Can Get a Mortgage: Even If You’ve Had a Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, or Other Credit Issue, (http://www.marylandloantips.com) has helped thousands achieve the American dream of homeownership. For Brian, this $19.14 book has generated a constant flow of great customers and millions of dollars of revenue for his mortgage brokerage company.

Brian invites book readers to visit his website for more information and a personal evaluation. Quite often, this evaluation leads to mortgage services with fees ranging from $5,000.00 to $15,000.00.

3. The source for accurate celebrity contact information creates monthly, recurring revenue from his self-published book.

Jordan McAuley self-published his book, Contact Any Celebrity, (http://www.IMACelebrityResource.com) and sold it for $55.00. This book that provides contact information for celebrities is useful for authors who want positive quotes from celebrities to put on their book covers, fans seeking autographs, and charities looking for celebrity endorsements.

Even though $55.00 for a book is a great price, Jordan didn’t stop there. He created a membership website with data that wouldn’t fit into the finished book. Jordan includes publicist information, additional phone numbers, and charities the celebrity already supports. It’s a lot of useful information specifically for authors and charities. Jordan charges only $9.95 a month for membership and promotes this option throughout his book. So instead of selling a book and getting paid once, Jordan has created monthly, recurring revenue from individuals who want constant access to more extensive and constantly updated information.

Final Self-Published Thoughts

Too many authors see the self-publishing of a book as their end goal. When that book hits bookstores, they breathe a sigh of relief and pat themselves on the back for a big accomplishment. Yes, you should be proud, but don’t stop there. Self-publishing a book opens the door to hundreds of other business opportunities.
